At Es Balconet the sea is our pantry. Fresh fish from Cap de Creus is not only a symbol of identity, it is also the life and character of our menu. Depending on the time of year the species in the area come and go, our cooking follows the season.

From Cap de Creus to Port Lligat and from Port Lligat directly to our kitchen, without being frozen and sometimes still alive, this is our idea of ‘fresh’ ! We believe in proper fishing, thanks to the labour of Macari Mares “Macarin” aboard his boat “Germanos Monte”, one of the few remaining fishing boats at Port Lligat. He fishes exclusively for Es Balconet using artisan methods and equipment friendly to the environment.

To us most important of all is local produce, the fresh wild fish of Cap de Creus. When the sea is too rough for “Macarín” we go to the fish markets of Roses, Port de la Selva or Llançà.

NOTE: At Es Balconet we value quality above all and reject farmed fish for its greasy composition, physical deformities and the muddy taste it would give to the dishes we prepare. This characteristic taste is due to chemicals in fish food which are fed to varieties like Seabass, Seabream, Turbot or Black Drum. Make sure to ask where the fish comes from.
